10 Planetary Reasons Why Lady Gaga is Lady Gaga
25 Jan

What drives a woman to wear a pair of smoking sunglasses, to tour past the point of exhaustion, to turn her whole life and existence into a performance? If only there was some way we could open up Lady Gaga and see where all this is coming from.
With astrology we can actually do that.
By looking at where all ten of the planets were when Gaga was born, we can see the influences in her life and how they add up to form the freak that has revolutionized the music scene. And what a beautiful, empathetic, and determined freak we find.

Water Signs: Moon and Pluto in Scorpio, Mercury and Venus in Pisces

The planet that immediately caught my attention in Lady Gaga’s chart was her moon. The moon rules over emotions, instincts and our unconscious. Gaga’s moon is in Scorpio, a sign that is characterized by secrecy, manipulation, passion, depression, attention to detail, and sexual intensity.
Not long ago, Gaga told Vanity Fair: “I have this weird thing that if I sleep with someone they’re going to take my creativity from me through my vagina.”
This is not a surprise considering Scorpios are so in touch with the connection sexuality brings. The paradox is that while Scorpios thrive on the physical act, their awareness of sex’s true power makes them vulnerable to being hurt by their partners.
And boy, was Gaga hurt.
Upon her breakup with a man known as Speedy, she said, “Do you know the feeling of your heart being so terribly broken you can feel the blood dripping out? When you have felt this, only then you know how I’m doing.”

Since that time, Gaga has simulated the act of poisoning a boyfriend in three music videos, and often cites celibacy as her choice.
Gaga’s other planet in Scorpio is Pluto, which is associated with personal power and transformation. Gaga feels power when she uses her sexuality and penetrating mind.
We see this influence borne out in one of the key events in the Lady Gaga creation story – the moment when she discovered Andy Warhol.

Before the fame (monster)
Only after poring over the diaries of Warhol and devoting serious study to the man did Gaga fully embrace the power of the spectacle. Andy’s influence was immediate and sudden. Blonde wigs became standard. Her already outré style was pushed to its breaking point, and then pushed some more. Gaga began to lead with her sexuality. The clothes become crazier and smaller until they reached their logical conclusion of hot pants and pasties.

And her relationship to the media started to hit its zenith.

Gaga pays her obeisance to Larry, whom she asked, “Should I call you King Larry?”
The Scorpio power allows Gaga to understand the underlying motives of her interviewers, and she uses this knowledge to her advantage. Speaking to a journalist with a put upon English accent one second, and then emphatically expressing her love for her fans in the next breath, Gaga’s persona is sure to keep writers off balance. But they know they need to report upon her, and cover story after cover story pops up.
The thing the press can’t seem to understand is that for a woman whose power and presence comes from a massive heaping of artifice, the motivation for it all is built upon a bedrock of absolute authenticity. More than anything else, she seems to love her fans. Gaga in fact was quoted as saying in Vanity Fair, “There will never be something that I put before my fans.”

This great depth of feeling is likely the influence of her other water sign, Pisces. Pisces is characterized by empathy, extreme sensitivity, inspiration, visionary brilliance, and is the sign of dreams. Gaga’s Pisces is in the planet of Jupiter, which is the planet of expansion, abundance, and generosity. So when Gaga uses her extreme empathy, sensitivity and creativity, her world is expanded and things naturally come to her. In looking at her career, the more dedicated she became to her fans, the more dedicated they became to her, until she was one of the largest pop stars in the world.
Gaga’s second Pisces planet is Mercury, which rules communication. This makes sense as Gaga has fully embraced her dreams and has put them front and center in both her art and her stage act. In a strange turn of events, it appears that much of this has been the influence of New Age guru Deepak Chopra. In an interview with Larry King, Gaga revealed, “I am good friends with Deepak Chopra, who I speak to a lot about my dreams… He tells me that I’m very creative and I should learn to embrace my insanity and not worry so much because I always call him and am saying, ‘Deepak, I had this most horrible, morbid dream. What does it all mean?’ And he says, ‘You’re just very creative. Put it on stage.’”

Fire Signs: Sun and Venus in Aries, Saturn and Uranus in Sagittarius
Fire signs love to be on stage and the center of attention, whether it be literally, or simply in a group setting or casual conversation. They are the natural born entertainers of the zodiac. In fact, when Gaga was asked by Larry King when she knew she wanted to be a performer, she replied, “In the womb, Larry. In my mother’s warm womb. …I guess you could say it’s always been my destiny to be a performer.”

Heels? Where we’re going, we don’t need heels
Gaga’s Sun, which is the planet that holds the most influence over her, is in Aries. The sun dictates ego, consciousness, and individuality. Aries is a sign known for being adventurous, risk-taking, and impulsive. Her Venus, which rules over love, beauty, art, and creative endeavors, is also in Aries. This leads Gaga to be someone who has wildly creative, idealistic visions that she needs to put before an audience. Inspired by Andy Warhol’s Factory, Gaga has assembled an informal coterie of artists, stylists, and designers dubbed Haus of Gaga to help her realize all of her ambitious ideas.

Saturn, Gaga’s planet of work, which rules over responsibility, structure, and maturity, is in Sagittarius. Sagittarius is associated with education, exploration, and optimism. Gaga’s career has not come easily to her. She went through many incarnations as a performance artist, burlesque dancer, and songwriter for hire, before finally finding her place as the pop queen we now know. Her ability to learn and grow from all these experiences, and forge ahead when no one else encouraged her, is likely the result of Sagittarius. Her first hit single “Just Dance,” was written as a response to all of the struggle in her career. Gaga told The Observer:
That record saved my life. I was in such a dark space in New York. I was so depressed, always in a bar. I got on a plane to LA to do my music and was given one shot to write the song that would change my life and I did. I never went back. I left behind my boyfriend, my apartment. I still haven’t been back.
The second of Gaga’s Sagittarian planets is Uranus. Uranus is the planet of change and originality, and is the one that brings unexpected changes into our lives. For Gaga, Uranus works best when she is using her optimism, her desire to explore emotions and ability to implement the lessons she’s learned from those that came before her.
Why Gaga Would Rather Die On Stage with All Her Fans
Earth Signs: Mars and Neptune in Capricorn
Capricorn is a career-oriented sign, possessing an iron will and an ability to persevere when all others have dropped off. The hallmarks of Capricorn are ambition, tenacity and accomplishment. This is where Gaga’s tireless work ethic comes from.

With her fans, but without her pants
Mars is about taking action, whether it be in love or business. And with Mars in Capricorn, Gaga is able to put in the work necessary to achieve her goals. The only issue is that she may have the propensity to go overboard, a problem it appears she is well aware of, but not worried about (what, her worry?). “I know that I work really hard and I run myself into the ground,” Gaga has said, “and I also know that alcohol will kill me one day. But I would rather not die on vacation, I’d rather die onstage with all my fans.”

With her fans, but without her pants and shirt
Neptune in turn deals with spirituality, the psyche, fantasy and meditation. While Gaga has the ability to express her dreams in a dynamic way (Mercury in Pisces), the Neptune in Capricorn influence allows her to engage her dreams in a practical and concrete way. This is a woman who doesn’t just express her dreams, she literally manifests them at any cost. Her current tour lost hundreds of thousands of dollars due to her insistence that the stage show not be compromised one iota.
Total: Four Water, Four Fire, and Two Earth Signs
Gaga’s chart allows her to be a superhero of a popstar. All the water signs spur on her deep feeling, while the fire gives her the ability to perform spectacularly in front of an audience, and the earth brings the practical drive to realize it all.
